1. How was the administration of Sher Shah Suri good?
Sher Shah Suri was an efficient administrator. He divided his empire into administrative units and appointed responsible officers. He improved the system of land revenue and had land measured for assessment. He introduced the rupiya as a standard silver coin. He also built and improved roads, planted trees along roads and established sarais for travellers. His efficient postal and intelligence systems helped maintain law and order. His administrative reforms later influenced the Mughal administration.
2. How can you say that Akbar was a great king?
Akbar was a great king because he was a capable ruler, military leader and administrator. He expanded the Mughal Empire and introduced several important administrative reforms. He developed the mansabdari system and improved the land revenue system with the help of Raja Todar Mal. Akbar followed a policy of religious tolerance and promoted Sulh-i-kul, meaning universal peace. He also encouraged art, literature and learning. His policies helped create a strong and stable empire.
3. How did the Mughal Empire come to an end during the reign of Aurangzeb?
During Aurangzeb's reign, the Mughal Empire became very large, but maintaining such a vast empire became difficult. His long wars in the Deccan exhausted the empire's resources. Several groups, including the Marathas, Sikhs, Jats and Rajputs, challenged Mughal authority. The empire also faced financial difficulties and administrative problems. After Aurangzeb's death in 1707 AD, weak successors and conflicts among nobles further weakened Mughal power. As a result, the Mughal Empire gradually declined.
